I am a trained clinical physiologist and currently completing a PhD in medical sciences investigating the use of exercise as medicine within chronic disease. I am (as of December) taking up visiting fellowship at Harvard Medical School to further develop research relating directly to the Kelly Medical model. Specifically my research focuses on obesity, cardiac disease and type 2 diabetes. In essence I design and run clinical trials through which i then develop genetic outcome predictor models for various health markers. Our current genetic predictor allows us to predict how responsive a patient will be to a particular exercise type before they even step foot into the clinic or gym. We are in the process of further developing this with predictors for changes in insulin, glucose, blood pressure and alike.
Why should Ben be recognised for a "Lived it" Award?
II have tirelessly adapted my research work to tie in with my future enterprise ambitions. By doing this I have spent the last 3 years piloting the concept in a highly controlled experimental envrionment and have showed that this method of healtcare provsion is high effective. I have an over arching ambition to run a profitable business whilst simulataneously changing the face of rehab prescription. My business model allows for day to day treatment of patients whilst acting as a fantastic hub for clinical research which will undoubtedly advanve our understanding of health and disease rehabilitation.
I will be one of the very forst clinical enterprises that bases all treatent on independent yet peer reviewed scientific evidence. We will trial novel interventions at a research level and translate these directly into practice, ensuring that patients get the very lates and most advance therpy possible. I am entirely dedicated to this cause and based on my research and future potential I have been offered a post-doctoral position at Harvard Medical School. Here i will develop my research into exercise therapy and its contribution to the treatment of chrnonic disease, before returning home to imcorporate my finidings into the clinical model.
I have achieved significant interest from large corpoarte health screening companies who see this model as being perfect for intergration into corporate health all the way through to complex care settings. Equally this enterprise has potential to change the face of healthcare insurance as well as the face of pharmaceutical prescription using patented genetic tests.
The aim of Kelly Medical is to treat disease whilst advancing science, thus reducing the burden on our national health framework.
